About Me: How A Kid Who Couldn't Run A Mile Became A Dance Fit And Pilates Teacher
Hello and welcome!
I got better at running but never found it easy
I love teaching pilates
And love teaching dance fitness
When I was at school I hated sports.
I hid in the bushes on sports day, became paralysed when confronted with a netball or hockey stick. The thought of running a mile - something we had to do every summer term - made my lungs collapse.
I was slow, weak and completely turned off by
exercise.
But at the age of 16 a maverick PE teacher arrived and taught an aerobics class. It was a revelation. Nobody was in competition with each other, it barely felt like exercise and afterwards I felt amazing.
I became a regular at aerobics at Poynton Leisure centre. Those sessions became the highlight of my week: the flashing lights, thumping music, the sense of camaraderie.
It was pure joy to run around to 'It's Raining Men', kicking our legs in the air just because we could.
Through my 20s I had a full on career as a documentary maker but I'd be in the gym or aerobics studio when I got the chance. I tried a beginner pilates class and fell in love with it. No more niggling aches and pains and at the end of each class I felt relaxed and refreshed.
Eventually I had kids and realised I was at a crossroads. The hours in my job, combined with having a family, were too much and there wasn't an option to go part time.
One Sunday morning, in a dance fitness class, the endorphins kicking in, I realised I wanted everyone to discover what I had about exercise. There was no other option but to retrain.
I've accumulated 15 years of experience teaching pilates and dance fitness and I thank my lucky stars I do what I do.
Since those early aerobics sessions in Poynton I've learnt so much about what exercise classes do for people.
I've learnt it can help lift a low mood and equip us to cope with the stressors of our everyday lives. The sense of belonging to a group with likeminded people is wonderful and, if we're open to it, we can make new friends. We all want to be fitter and stronger but there's so much more to exercise than that.
My qualifications and CPD are listed below but it's rare
I'm asked for them.
Sure, if you have a bad back or knee problem you need to know I have the training to help but most people just want to go to a class where they feel better walking out than they did walking in.
I promise I'll do my best to provide that.
I'd love you to try one of my
Pilates classes in Poynton or Bramhall
or
an Easy Latin Dance Fit class. please get in touch
